Home Brewed Silver Nitrate

Is it worth the hassle?

For me it is.     Silver nitrate retails for $300.00 a pound

I took a pint of nitric acid and disolved  3 oz Of sterling silver into it.

So far my results are promising.  Silver nitrate Has been turning my glazes dark purple.

When put back in the kiln for a post-fire deduction

the pots turned a remarkable bright metallic silver in color.

Note to self, Wear glaves when glazing pots containing silver nitrate!!!
