This teapot grew surprisingly large crystals for a three hour soak. After achieving cone ten I alternate soaking temps from 2000 for the first hour 2100 for the second hour and 2000 for the third. The colorant used were 2% manganese dioxide, .5% cobalt carb, 8% titanium

Home brewing silver nitrate dont breathe the brown smoke
Is it worth the hassle?
For me it is. Silver nitrate retails for $300.00 a pound
I took a pint of nitric acid and disolved 3 oz Of sterling silver into it.
So far my results are promising. Silver nitrate Has been turning my glazes dark purple.
When put back in the kiln for a post-fire deduction
the pots turned a remarkable bright metallic silver in color.

Note to self, Wear gloves when glazing pots containing silver nitrate!!!
